QUICK SNIFF: Memories that make perfume magical

I’m curious: Are there perfumes that you suspect are not especially well crafted but that carry memories for you that make you love them anyway? How much do you think you’re impacted by factors like the context in which you first sniffed a perfume when it comes to how you end up feeling about it? Are some perfumes’ early associations so strong for you that you can’t even pretend to sniff them with anything approaching objectivity?

Like lots of folks who grew up in the U.S. in the 70s and 80s, I have an unreasonable affection for drugstore fragrances like Charlie, Woman by Jovan, English Leather, and Brut. It’s a reminder to me of how very much the nose I live with today was formed by my past.
