Reflective tools for difficult times: A workshop for progressive women
In Kalamazoo starting April 12, 2025
Drawing on user-friendly philosophical ideas, each meeting will focus on a practical theme with the goal of supporting and growing inner well being in the midst of chaos. We’ll explore issues such as:
- Maintaining some measure of inner peace in the midst of social upheaval
- Nourishing the motivation to act in the face of great challenges
- Balancing self-care and compassion for others
- Considering how meditation can help support sustainable activism
Who it’s for: Progressive women who feel called to act in the midst of the current crisis. No prior experience with philosophy is necessary, just a baseline of general mental health since this is not meant to be a substitute for psychological treatments such as therapy.
Logisitics: The group will meet in Kalamazoo from 10-11:30 a.m. starting on April 12. There will be no fee, but participants will be asked to make a small donation to a progressive organization such as Indivisible.org. Contact bailey.cathryn@gmail.com for more details.
The facilitator: An experienced university professor with a PhD in philosophy, she is a longtime meditator especially influenced by Buddhism, feminism, and existentialism. Feedback from a recent community workshop describes the experience as “laidback,” and “transformative in surprising ways.”
